Slimbridge

Year 4 had a fantastic trip to Slimbridge Wetland Centre and were lucky enough to enjoy sunshine most of the day! They loved the water mammal teaching session and mammal handling activities, which involved opportunities to get up close to adult birds and hold artifacts, but the highlight of the day was watching the flamingos relaxing in the sunshine. Children were amazed at how long they can stand on one leg for.

The Water Cycle

What goes up must come down!  Our Science topic is on States of Matter and we have been learning about water cycles and how mountains play a key role. We have also been investigating how we can change liquids into solids and gases. During ICT we researched the water cycle and in Art, created our own water cycle, water colour artwork.

Observational sketching

In Year 4, our Art topic for term 4 is observational drawings. We have been looking closely at feathers in class and as the weather was so lovely today, we decided to head outdoors and sketch objects outside.

shelters

During our DT sessions we have been learning about different kinds of shelters, their materials, uses and components. After we had investigated a range of shelters, the children created their own shelter design for a specific purpose. They then followed their plan and design criteria to create them using a range of materials that the children had brought in from home.

French Wow Day

On Friday the 13th of January, we all enjoyed playing French games, learning French words and eating French food! We also got the opportunity to carry out some research in the ICT suite to find out about famous French nationals as well as writing pen pal letters. Our teacher is going to get in contact with an international french school and hopefully we can make friends with a class in France.

Finally before the day came to an end, our teacher put us into groups and set us a challenge. Who could make the most sturdy Eiffel Tower using only straws, sellotape and paper?

Take a look at some pictures from our day below.

Art project

As a whole school, we are currently working with Daphne Wright who is an Irish visual artist. Each class is going to have a special talking stick in the classroom which the children can use to take turns to speak in lessons such as PSHE. Every class has designed their own talking sticks and Daphne will be taking the children's ideas to put into the final designs.

Take a look at year 4 using junk modelling to create their idea of what a talking stick could look like.
